DROGE NEWS - Treatment

Name - DROGE NEWS
Duration - 20 Minutes
Number of Cast - 1
Number of Crew - 20

Intro;
Our show will last approximately 20 minutes and will contain just 1 cast member, being the presenter and interviews with the general public. It will be budgeted at a low price so it is easy and affordable to produce and market.

Outline Script;
INT.News Studio - Evening

Shot of presenter sitting behind a desk with an IPad in-front of him. Behind, a busy news room filled with researchers and other news workers.

PRESENTER

Good evening, I'm Liam Glyde with the top stories tonight.

First story visual is shown as the presenter talks about the main points of the story.

PRESENTER

(talks about first story about Film and TV)

VT is shown over the top of the scene, giving the audience a more in-depth look on the story. Also interviews with other members of the general public about their opinions on the topic being questioned.

PRESENTER

(Introduces second story and starts stating facts - Cons of traveling by train and car)

For this story, we are only showing visuals over the top of the commentary. Pictures showing angry passengers waiting for their trains and waiting in traffic. These will be showing whilst the presenter is talking about the main points of the story and what is going to effect or relate to the audience the most.

PRESENTER

(introduces third story - Weight loss)

VT is shown with a basic video of people walking past the camera, a natural environment. In editing, these shots will be slowed down and facts will be shown on the screen as the presenter talks about each one in detail.

PRESENTER

(Last story is introduced - Pros of traveling by train and car)

Like the Cons story, we have decided to base this story on visuals and speech. The only visuals are basic pictures based around the topic the presenter is talking about. Whilst pictures are showing, the presenter will be talking about the points that effect and relate to the target audience the most.

Budget;
To help lower our budget, we all agreed that using the equipment supplied to us by South Essex College would be the best option because it comes at no charge and it is available most of the time. As three members of the group drive, we don't have to pay the expenses of public transport to get to the locations. This helps lower the budget a lot due to the amount of times we have to be at the location. This also breaks the limit on what locations we go to. This mind map can be seen in a past blog entry named 'Crew List'.

Personnel Involved;
Throughout the process of making our news show, there is a lot of different personnel that needs to be involved. A director and a producer to make sure everything runs smoothly and that everyone is sticking to the timings and budget required, multiple camera operators to operate the 3 different cameras we are planning on using, two sound and lighting technicians. One to work in the studio, controlling the sound levels and working with the lighting deck and another to actually be on set, making sure the microphones are connected and the lights are in the right place and facing the right way. Working with the director and the producer, we will have a script writer that will help us in writing up all the news stories and information the news reader needs to present. A floor manager will also be on hand to make sure there are no wires or any health and safety hazards on set. This is very important as it can effect the production a lot if there are issues with health and safety. Every one of these roles and more are vital to the making of our production.

Contingency Plan;
Making sure we have a backup plan is one of our top priorities. As the show is live, if anything goes wrong, we won't be able to change it. Things that we need to check regularly is that the script is correct and there are no mistakes so the news reader knows that they are saying and won't sound confused when filming, to make sure that we have back up actors incase our main presenter Liam isn't in on the day of the shoot. This can affect us a lot due to rehearsing with the same actor throughout and having to change presenter may mean having to change lighting and camera set-up too. If the promoter broke during filming, we will have to make sure that the presenter has some notes in front of him and that he has a basic idea of what he is talking about and what the story consists of. If a camera happens to break, we will have made sure that we have hired a backup camera to sit on standby incase needed. As we are shooting on-the-spot interviews with the general public, we have to make sure that they are willing to help us before harassing them with our questions. If we fail to get any response, we will have to try a different location or even a different idea that we have already thought up and saved in our scrapbooks. Failing to get permission to film in the Odeon, we will have a different location on hand or even people that we know but are able to give us their opinion on a certain topic. As stories change over time, we want the most recent so we will have to have backup stories if the story we are using goes out of date and is no longer any relevance to the public' s lives.

Production Roles;
As a group, we allocated different roles to each member of the class meaning that they can help us create a good production. We completed a mind map with the names of the job roles and then who is going to be fulfilling the roles. We have a lot of trust in our class and we think that if we continue to work as a unit, we will be able to create a brilliant news show.

Research;
As a group, we have undertook different types of research on the four different topics we are focussing on. Looking more into secondary research, we used the internet in many different ways to find lots of different information to make our stories more believable and realistic. Using social networking sites to create forums and getting peoples opinions on different questions put forward. To find out local news, we used various news websites looking at their top stories at the moment and the difference between their to stories and their less important stories. Using IMDb, we are able to see the popularity of different films and people's general opinions on what they thought of them. We will be completing primary research whilst filming our VT's by completing on-the-spot interviews and questionnaires/surveys, collecting a range of opinions from a variety of people. This will help us make our stories more personal to the audience we are trying to target.
