How will the soundtrack help to tell your story?
By using a soundtrack to tell my story, I want to be able to create the feeling of sympathy as the audience watches. By using a combination of music and ADR, I am hoping to create the feeling of upset and emotion leaving the audience with a rememberable impression that they will think about a while after watching the film. The music I have chosen is a slow, piano cover of 'Arms of the Angel' really works well with the genre of my film and also with the type of the voiceover. By using a voice over, I thought that this will be better as the visuals can also be used to tell a story as well as the voiceover. I thought that if I used normal live recorded dialogue, it wouldn't be as effective as it would be to use a voiceover.
How would you use LIVE SOUND?
I have chosen not to use live sound in my video as when I experimented with it, it didn't sound as natural as I liked. Also I didn't use live sound because I wanted to express emotion through music and soundscape rather than diegetic sounds and dialogue.
How would you use ADR/FOLEY/SFX?
By using ADR, I have created a voice over to go over the music that will be what the audience focus on during the whole video. To start of my film, I have used a piece of dialogue with no visuals, this makes the audience really focus on what the actor is saying and will help them to relate to the characters situation.
How would you use MUSIC?
When using music, you have to be careful to avoid copyright. Using a non-copyright piece of music, I really think that it helps the audience relate to what the character is saying making it more emotional and realistic. Death by car crash is a common thing in this generation and by using a very sympathetic piece of music that is a piano cover of a famous song, the audience is able to relate to it very well.
How would you use AMBIENCE AND SOUNDSCAPES?
Originally, I was going to use a soundscape created from different sounds found on 'freesound.org' including police sirens, car screeching and people screaming. I thought this would be good because it will help the audience understand what has happened before the film even starts but I think that it would give it away too easily and wouldn't give a lasting impression on the audience. When experimenting with different noises, they 4 soundscapes that I created didn't fit in very well with the genre of my film and made it a little confusing for the audience. As there is no diegetic sound throughout the whole of my short film, there was no need for ambient sound.
